Home remodeling in Laporte, Colorado. Where the Poudre leaves the foothills.

Laporte is an unincorporated town on the Cache la Poudre River, where it leaves the foothills northwest of Fort Collins. It is one of the oldest settlements in the area: trappers built cabins here as early as 1828, and it was the county seat before Fort Collins.

Today about 2,409 people live in Laporte on a mix of older homes, acreage properties and newer houses. Remodels here often involve wells, septic systems and longer driveways, which we plan for from the start.

Laporte

Remodeling Laporte homes

Many Laporte properties have larger lots and older homes, which makes additions, kitchen remodels and whole-home updates common. Homes on well and septic need those systems considered when adding bathrooms or bedrooms.

Because Laporte is unincorporated, it is governed by Larimer County, not a city. Permits, inspections and zoning rules come from the county.

Permits in Laporte

Laporte is unincorporated, so building permits come from Larimer County rather than a city. Adding a bedroom or bathroom on a septic system may also need county review of the system's capacity. The contractor handles the permit and inspections.

FAQ

Remodeling in Laporte: your questions

Who issues permits in Laporte?

Larimer County, since Laporte is not inside a city. The contractor applies and schedules inspections.

Can I add a bathroom if I am on septic?

Usually, but the county may need to confirm the septic system can handle it. We check that early in the plan.
